Wakakirri is a story dance competition we participate in each year.

Each year, Fitzgerald State School students from Years 4 to 6 participate in Wakakirri, a national story dance competition.  Our talented teachers, along with the students write and produce a different item each and every year which is a 3-7 minute story (orientation, complication, resolution) performed on stage to pre-recorded music, using a blend of creative movement and acting.  Our items always have a special message incorporated and when contemplating sets, props and costumes for our Wakakirri item, we stick to the 3 R’s: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

Wakakirri has an emphasis on participation. Everyone should feel proud to make it to the stage. The competitive side of Wakakirri exists as a way for teachers and students to challenge themselves and as a way of providing critical feedback.  Over the years, Fitzgerald State School has participated successfully and will continue to do so well into the future!
